GeoTraceroute is a community-driven network of measurement nodes spread across the globe. Each node allows us to run traceroutes and latency measurements from real locations, on real networks — giving users an accurate picture of how the internet actually routes traffic.
What your node does
Once added, our system will periodically connect to your server via SSH to run two commands: mtr and ping. That’s it. We do not store any data on your server, we do not write to disk, and we do not use your server for anything else. The SSH key used is dedicated to GeoTraceroute and do not need elevated privileges.
A Linux server with SSH access (our public SSH key )
A server with stable uptime — VPS, dedicated, or cloud instances only. Personal computers or home connections are not suitable.
mtr and ping installed (or installable via your package manager)
1 vCPU and 2 GB of RAM are more than sufficient
No special firewall rules needed — we initiate the connection, your server doesn’t need to accept incoming traffic on any extra port
What you get
Your node appears on the nodes list with its city and company name, visible to every user who runs a traceroute through it. You’re contributing to an open, transparent view of internet routing that’s used by network engineers, researchers, and curious minds worldwide.
